FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Completing the FAFSA is required by all students applying for federal financial aid, however FAFSA is also used by a vast number of colleges, universities and states to determine eligibility for other forms of financial aid.   The form can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1st of the year for which you are requesting aid. You should complete your FAFSA as soon as possible, since many deadlines for state and private aid occur in early February.  It is best to File the FAFSA online since it is not only faster, but the software helps to alleviate errors, resulting in a more accurate application.  You will need a PIN number.  PIN numbers are required to sign the online application.  If do not have a PIN or wish to change the one you have, go to www.pin.ed.gov.

One parent should also register for a PIN number. This is for students who are required to submit parental information. The parent can use the same PIN number for his electronic signature each year and for each child. Your parent can register for a PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov as well.  If you have any trouble filling out the FAFSA, you may contact the U.S. Department of Education directly at 1-800-4-FED-AID.

The FAFSA should be the first financial aid forms that you complete, but not your last.  There is a wide array of scholarships which could provide you with money for tuition, books, housing and even travel abroad.   Review the scholarship directory on 4blackyouth.com by clicking here, 4blackyouth.com Scholarships.
