Social Service Assistants

Provide important services and assistance to those in need and try help improve their quality of life.
Average Pay: $20, 350 - $32,440    Qualifications: Usually a High School Diploma
The Job
Responsible for many of the direct and behind the scene efforts that help those in society who may need a helping hand. These workers include: human service workers, case management aides, social work assistants, community support workers, mental health aides, community outreach workers, life skills counselors, and senior citizen aides. They assess clients' needs, investigate their eligibility for benefits and services such as food stamps, Medicaid, or welfare, and help to obtain them. They also arrange for transportation and escorts, if necessary, and provide emotional support.
Work Environment
Some work in offices, clinics, and hospitals, while others work in group homes, shelters, sheltered workshops, and day programs. Traveling to see clients is also required for some jobs.

Minimum Qualifications
Some jobs may require a bachelor's or master's degree in human services or a related field. Others only a high school diploma.

I am so concerned about our youth and their ability to succeed. I am a proud parent of a Junior in High School and a kindergarten. I have seen them progress on so many different levels. They believe in themselves and i truly believe in the saying..."It starts at home".
